Lab.Mescalina — Support
Last updated: September 15, 2026
This page covers all five apps — Sandin FX, Q5K, PB7, RE7 and SCAN7. They share the same foundation: native macOS applications, computed on the GPU, played live and exported exactly as previewed.
A question, a problem, an idea?
Write to contact@mescalina.fr,
mentioning which app you mean. We usually answer within two business days. The apps are made by a very small
team: every message is read by the person who writes them.
| System | macOS 14 Sonoma or later. |
|---|---|
| Hardware | Any Apple silicon Mac (M1 and later) or a recent Metal-capable Intel Mac. Rendering is computed on the GPU. |
| Inputs | Depending on the app: video files (MOV, MP4, M4V), images, PNG with transparency, camera, or titles and patterns set inside the app. |
| Output files | QuickTime .mov in H.264 or ProRes 422 / 4444 (PB7 also exports alpha in ProRes 4444). The source audio is kept on export. |
| Optional | A camera (built-in or USB), a USB-MIDI controller, a second display or projector. |
| Sandin FX | Also available in a Linux version (SDL2, OpenGL, FFmpeg), with the same files and presets. |
Each app has a Presentation (a full tour of the modules) and a Tutorial, in PDF, in French, English and Spanish. Find them on the Documentation page or from each app's page: Sandin FX, Q5K, PB7, RE7, SCAN7.
For the apps that take the camera as a source (Sandin FX, PB7, RE7, SCAN7) and for audio reactivity, permission is requested on first use. If you declined, re-enable it in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera (or Microphone), tick the app, then relaunch it.
Yes, for all five apps. The export is deterministic: oscillator and animation time follows the render's timecode, not the computer clock. Recorded gestures (knob movements) and your settings apply to the export as well.
Sandin FX, Q5K, RE7 and SCAN7 open a window that shows only the processed picture. Drag it to the second display or projector and go full screen (⌃⌘F). Controls stay on the main display and the output never freezes, even when the main window is hidden.
MIDI is handled by Sandin FX, Q5K and RE7. Connect the controller before launching the app, then open the MIDI window.
The interface is in English by default on all apps. In the About window, the Language picker offers French; the change takes effect at the next launch.
In readable text files you can back up or delete. Edition bought from our website:
| Sandin FX | ~/Library/Application Support/SandinFX/ |
|---|---|
| Q5K | ~/Library/Application Support/DPE5000/ |
| PB7 | ~/Library/Application Support/PB7/ |
| RE7 | ~/Library/Application Support/RE7/ |
| SCAN7 | ~/Library/Application Support/SCAN7/ |
On the Mac App Store edition, the same files live in the app's container
(~/Library/Containers/…/Data/Library/Application Support/). The two editions do not share these folders.
In the Finder, hold ⌥ while opening the Go menu to reveal Library.
| Mac App Store edition | Your purchase from Apple is your licence. Reinstalling on your Macs, updates and refunds go through the App Store and your Apple account; we have no access to that information. |
|---|---|
| Edition bought from our website | A personal licence key per app, usable on two computers. To move to a new machine, release an activation or recover a lost key, write to us from the e-mail used for the order, or use Retrieve my key. |
